520 South El Camino is a complete retrofit of Westlake’s flagship nine-story, 118,000-sq. ft. headquarters building located in the heart of downtown San Mateo, CA. 520 South El Camino holds a special meaning for Westlake and was the company’s headquarters for over 35 years. The approximately $40 million project improved the structural integrity of the building through a seismic retrofit, and incorporated sustainable and energy-efficient elements as well as a variety of new amenities for the building’s tenants. The renovation included a new glass exterior, a fully renovated interior, and a rooftop patio on top of the rear ground floor extension. The remodel also included the addition of 6,379 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space to the second and third floors of the structure. Construction commenced at the end of July of 2018 and was completed in March of 2021.
