T.M. Chang moves from Japan to the United States, putting down roots in the Bay Area.
1975: Headquarters
Westlake Development Company purchases its marquee headquarter building at 520 South El Camino Real in San Mateo, CA.
1978: William H.C. Chang
William H.C. Chang joins Westlake Development Company.
1979: Purchase of Newark Valencia Land
Westlake Development Company purchases the land for its first residential development project, Valencia Townhomes in Newark, CA.
1979: Expansion
Westlake Development Company expands its footprint into China with the commencement of the Golden Bridge Mansion development project.
1981: First Construction Project Completed
Construction of Valencia Townhomes in Newark, CA is completed as the first development and construction project by Westlake Builders.
1981: Westlake Builders
Westlake Builders is established as the construction arm of Westlake Development Company with William H.C. Chang assuming the role as President.
1983: 909 Montgomery
909 Montgomery Building is constructed as the company’s first commercial development project by Westlake Development Company & Westlake Builders.
1989: Tallest Building in Shanghai
Westlake Development Company completes the construction of Golden Bridge Mansion, making it the tallest building in Shanghai at the time.
1999: Expanding International Footprint
Westlake Development Company expands its international footprint in Japan with the purchase of a property in Yokohama-Shi, Kanagawa, Japan.
2001: William H.C. Chang | Chairman & CEO
T.M. Chang steps down as the head of the Company and William H.C. Chang assumes the role of Chairman & CEO of Westlake Realty Group, Inc.
2001: Westlake Realty Group
Westlake Development Company rebrands to Westlake Realty Group, triggering the liquidation of its business in China over the course of the next five years.
2002: Westlake International Group
Westlake Realty Group establishes Westlake International Group as the arm of the company in charge of all alternative investment projects.
2002: Restructuring
Westlake Realty Group sells Westlake Shopping Center, signifying a major restructuring as a new generation takes the reins of the company.
2004: San Francisco Giants
Westlake International Group invests in the San Francisco Giants.
2005: Westlake Urban
Westlake Realty Group establishes Westlake Urban as the arm of the company in charge of all development projects.
2005: Transit Oriented Development
Westlake Urban commences the development project of San Leandro Tech Campus as its first major development initiative, while also introducing Westlake to the vertical of Transit Oriented Development (TOD).
2006: D.C. United
Westlake International Group invests in the D.C. United.
2014: Kristina C. Chang
Kristina C. Chang joins Westlake Realty Group and Westlake International Group as a Principal.
2016: San Jose Hilton Garden Inn
Westlake Urban commences work on the San Jose Hilton Garden Inn development project, marking the first hotel joint venture for the company.

Westlake International Group sells D.C. United.
2017: T.M. Chang
T.M. Chang passes away.
2018: Kelly Chang Levine
Kelly Chang Levine joins the Westlake Urban development division.
2022: Kristina C. Chang | CEO
